What is Kovar Bar and Rod?

Kovar Bars and Rods are made up of about 29% Nickel, 17% Cobalt, and the rest is Iron, along with small amounts of Manganese and Silicon. This iron-nickel-cobalt alloy is specifically engineered to align with the thermal expansion characteristics of glass and ceramics. Kovar boasts impressive dimensional stability, featuring a controlled coefficient of thermal expansion around 5.5 × 10⁻⁶/°C (20–200°C). It offers a tensile strength ranging from 520 to 620 MPa, a yield strength of about 415 MPa, and good ductility, making it an excellent choice for applications that require hermetic sealing and thermal compatibility across a wide temperature range.
